Frequently Asked Questions

AID Security & Electrical Services are based in Lucan, Co. Dublin. We are Registered Electrical Contractors with ECSSA and provide an electrical installation service to Industrial, Commercial & Residential clients throughout Dublin and the Greater Leinster area.

Q: Could the presence of a burglar alarm be an attraction to a thief as they may think there is something in the house worth stealing

A: Far from acting as an attraction to a thief, the presence of a highly visible alarm box on the external wall of your premises is an effective deterrent. The absence of an alarm, however, will suggest the house is not adequately protected. The best sort of alarm is one that is monitored by an alarm receiving centre.

Q: What sort of budget do I require for a house alarm?

A: We range our starter pack from €600 upwards. We can cater for customers who have a particular budget in mind.

Q: Why do I need a safe? I keep my jewellery hidden where no one can find it.

A: Unfortunately the truth is that given the opportunity a thief will find even the most discreet of hiding places. Jewellery remains the favourite target for the burglar and so great care must be taken if you wish to keep it safe. Insurance money is of little or no consolation if you really want your valuables returned, so the advice is that we can install a safe for you.

Q: What is the point of having my alarm system monitored centrally when the Garda can take so long to respond?

A: Time is the enemy of the burglar. When you have your alarm monitored it activates the Garda and the keyholders are informed immediately. This enables effective action to be taken and thereby reduces the time available to the criminals. Importantly, since the policy on intruder alarms was introduced, officers will not attend those alarms which are not centrally monitored unless there is clear evidence that a crime has been committed.

Q: Why can't I use my local electrician to install my new alarm?

A: To have full confidnce in your alarm sytem you need to have it installed by a certified NSAI contractor, this guarantees that any alarm installation conforms to the requisite NSAI and helps ensure that intruder alarms are not the source of false alarms.

Q: I just got a new house. If I install an alarm system, do you see wires everywhere?

A: No, not necessarily. If Aid Security, based in Lucan is informed on time, it’s even possible to install the alarm system during the construction of the house in a way there are no wires visible at all. Of course you can also chose for a wireless system that works on batteries.

Q: Is an alarm installation usefull?

A:Yes, guaranteed. An alarm system is both preventive and effective in case of an actual attempt of forced entry. Burglars will pass your house quickly when they see AID Security stickers or a visible siren. In case someone still attempts a forced entry, the siren of the alarm system immediately goes off and the control room is notified. Should this also fail to scare of the burglar, the damage will be limited due to the adequate response to the alarm by Aid Security.

Q: Does my alarm system require maintenance?

A:  An alarm system also needs maintenance. It requires regular cleaning and check-ups. Is everything still functioning optimally, have there been any changes in our building? Aid offers various maintenance contracts tailored to your circumstances. We can inform you thoroughly about these during our first meeting.
